A multidisciplinary approach to understanding and relieving stress symptoms in children and young people with SEND

09 October 2020 11:00 - 12:00

An increasing number of children and young people suffer from symptoms of stress and it affects their ability to thrive and learn. Achieving a greater understanding of how physical symptoms like headaches, nausea, stomach pains etc. arise and how they are connected to thoughts, worries and general mental health, will aid professionals working with children and young people. The neurophysiology behind stress symptoms will be presented, with a focus on the changes in the brain, the nervous system and how it all affects learning and thriving. The session will offer hands-on practical ideas of how to work with children and young people from both at physiotherapeutic and psychological approach, and how professionals can approach psychosomatic symptoms related to stress.
