What every teacher needs to know about speech language and communication needs (SLCN), with a focus on Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)

08 October 2021 12:30 - 13:30

Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) affects approximately 7.6% of children, which equates to roughly 2 children in each average class of 30 in the UK. Yet, most people have never heard of it! This session, aimed at teachers in mainstream schools, will provide a comprehensive introduction to what DLD is, how to identify it, and what to do about it – including key strategies that teachers can put in place to support students with SLCN (including DLD) in the classroom, as well as whole school approaches to support speech, language and communication skills.
