Can robots open a new door to enhance Special Needs education?

08 October 2021 13:45 - 14:30

Technology for education is an emerging field facilitating learning and providing an environment that learners can study in an individualized way and with their own pace. Also, it is trying to reduce inequalities in accessing effective education by democratising the access to educational materials. One of the areas that educational technologies can impact greatly is the special needs education. Special needs education is one of the areas that is currently extremely under pressure. The quality of the SEN education is directly connected to the number of well-trained teachers and educators in a locality and currently many areas are dealing with tremendous shortage of human resources. On the other hand, SEN education is extremely demanding on teachers, pushing them to have the highest rate of work-related burnout in the social workers. In this session, we try to discuss new SEN technologies that can support students, teachers, and the education system.

Learning objectives:

  • Overview of tech trends in education
  • What the key pros and cons of using robots as a educational tool for children with autism are
  • How robots can be integrated in SEN education, without teachers needing to learn coding and IT
